NICO TONI NAMED CRC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Nico Toni (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove) of the Cosumnes River College baseball team has been selected as the CRC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-14.

Toni led the Hawks to a pair of victories, helping CRC outscore their opponents 27-6 over that two-game stretch, improving the team's record to 3-3 on the season.  The freshman catcher opened the week with a 2 for 5 performance at the plate, scoring two runs in helping lead Cosumnes River to an 8-4 victory on the road against Chabot.

The catcher followed that strong performance with an outstanding 6 for 6 day at the dish, hitting two doubles, knocking in three runs, while scoring three of his own in powering CRC to a 19-2 victory over visiting Lassen.  In all, the Hawks scored 19 runs on the strength of 26 hits, winning their second straight contest and their third in five games.

The freshman backstop from nearby Pleasant Grove High School has played well in his freshman campaign, leading the team with a .500 batting average and an OPS of over 1.100.  Toni currently leads the teams with five doubles on the season, and currently ranks second on the team with five RBI's.

This is Toni's first CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the first for the baseball team this season.  

Toni and the Hawks continue play at home tomorrow when they play host to the Giants of Sequoias.  First pitch is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 PM at Cosumnes River College.  They'll continue their series against Sequoias the next day on the 20th as well, with first pitch scheduled for 1 PM.
