Rockefeller bomb not enough for Hawks.

Rockefeller bomb not enough for Hawks.

Pitching ruled the day until the fifth inning for the Skyline Trojans who broke through with 2 runs off Anthony Castaneda. Castaneda, who came on in the fourth replacing Steven Talbert who started and pitched three solid innings giving up just two hits and two walks, struggled in the fifth as he gave up two hits, a walk, and a hit batter for the Trojans two runs. Donovan Harrison came on at that point and after a walk to load the bases, induced an inning ending double play to kill the Skyline rally.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth as Brett Bloomfield started the inning off with a single. After a misplayed ground ball at second by the Trojans allowed Brian Morley to reach, Billy Rockefeller hit a towering 3-run homer to right center for a 3-2 lead.

The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the seventh when Morley singled in Bloomfield who had doubled with two outs making it a 4-2 game.

It stayed that way until the top of the ninth when the Trojans scored their three unearned runs on a single, a hit batter, then a fielder's choice error which scored the first run. Another fielder's choice put runners at first and third before a walk loaded the bases. Still another fielder's choice on a possible double play ball got a force at second before an error on that play brought in the last two runs for the Trojans.

For the Hawks, both Bloomfield and Morley had two hits apiece while Rockefeller, Jordan Yu, Brooks Day, Peyton Wheatley, and Damien Chavez all had hits for CRC.

Daniel Vitoria, Yu, and John Treat also pitched for the Hawks in relief with Yu taking the loss in the ill fated ninth inning.

The Hawks are now 1-1 on the season with a two game set against Skyline at Skyline on Friday February 3rd and Saturday the 4th. Friday is a 2pm start while Saturday is a 1pm gametime.
