Hawks Alumni Continue to Shine in the Majors

We all dream of playing in "the big game", at "the next level", or on "the big stage" -- three of our own have done just that.

Alumni David Hernandez (2004-2005), Kristopher Negron (2006), and David Freitas (2008-2009) have made that dream a reality. All three have made it from the diamond at Cosumnes River to major league stadiums.

Hernandez is an Elk Grove native who attended Cosumnes River for both years before being drafted by the Baltimore Orioles. He is now a relief pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds. In his second season in the majors, Hernandez finished with a career high eight wins. In his nine-year career, he has thirty-six wins and a career 3.84 ERA.

Negron played one year for the Hawks after graduating from Vanden High School in Fairfield. Negron was drafted by the Boston Red Sox after the 2006 season. He currently is a utility infielder for the Seattle Mariners. Negron has over fifty major league hits including six home runs.

Freitas, a catcher, earned All-American honors while playing for the Hawks.  He played at Cosumnes River for two seasons before transferring to the University of Hawaii where he continued to excel. He was later drafted by the Washington Nationals. He is currently a catcher in the Seattle Mariners organization. In 2 years in the major leagues, Freitas has over one hundred at bats including a home run.

Congrats to these men. Cosumnes River is proud to call you alumni. We wish you continued success in the game
