Hawks Sweep Series...

The Hawks went into Game 2 looking to sweep visiting Shasta JC, and get "Opening Weekend" off to a 2-0 start. The pitching staff held Shasta in check all day and the Hawks were able to improve to (2-0, 0-0 Big 8). Freshman Anthony Galindo (Dixon HS) dazzled in his first Collegiate start for the Hawks. Galindo's line went 3 IP, 2 BB, 0 H and 2 K's. Freshmen Troy Rice (Capital Christian HS) got the win for the Hawks and was masterful in his 3 inning outting (3 IP, 2 H, 2 K's). Freshmen Alan Garcia (Sheldon HS) closed out the final six outs for CRC and again just filled up the zone, leaving Shasta's hitters off balance and extremely frustrated.

Offensively the Hawks were led by Centerfield Sophmore Brett Graber (Capital Christian HS) who collected a leadoff double to right, and tallied up two more RBI's to add to his collection in the second contest of the season. Sophmore Catcher Taylor Maldonado (Bear Creek HS) went 2x4 and also did a fantastic job of handling the pitching staff Saturday. His blocking, receiving and throwing out a base runner in the 6th inning ended a potiental threat to the Hawks. Freshmen Jack Painter (Davis Sr. HS) also contributed at the plate on the day going 2x5.

"I was very pleased with our pitching staff today. We did a much better job of controlling both sides of the plate with command of both the fastball and off-speed. Very positive outtings by our young guys the past two days and moving into next week where we will see a very tough task of playing four games (3 of 4 will be on the road) against two quality opponents. These Freshmen are really stepping into their own." (Pitching Coach David Smith)

The Hawks have a very busy week ahead of them starting with Tuesday (1/28/2020)Game at Mendocino JC starting at 2:00 pm.
