SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Josh Dela Cruz (Galt, Calif./Galt) of the Cosumnes River College men's basketball team has been selected as the CRC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 1-7.

Dela Cruz led the Hawks to pair of victories this past week at home against rivals American River and Sacramento City, to help CRC to a two game lead in the Big 8 conference.  The 5'11" sophomore point guard opened the week at home against #19-ranked American River, scoring 11 points while grabbing three rebounds, and dishing five assists in 29 minutes of action.  He also grabbed a game-high four steals in the game, as Cosumnes River defeated the Beavers soundly, 79-63.

Dela Cruz closed out the week with another efficient performance on Friday, as Cosumnes River defeated Sacramento City in blowout fashion, 88-58.  The point guard who played for Sacramento City during the 2012-13 season, scored 13 points on 6-10 shooting, adding four rebounds and three assists in only 21 minutes of action.  He also recorded a steal in the game.

The sophomore point guard out of Galt, Calif. has performed well since seizing the starting point guard role last month as Big 8 play began.  Since conference play began, Dela Cruz is averaging nine points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in 29 minutes per game.  Dela Cruz redshirted last season at Cosumnes River after transferring from Sacramento City College following the 2012-13 season.

This is Dela Cruz's first CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the second for the men's basketball team this season.  Mitchell Love was named Student-Athlete of the Week last week.

Dela Cruz and the Hawks open the week in first place.  They'll head to Rocklin tomorrow night for a Big 8 conference game against the Sierra Wolverines.  They'll return home on Thursday for a game against the Mustangs of Delta College.  Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 7:30.
