SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Mitchell Love (Sacramento, Calif./St. Ignatios Prep (SC)) of the Cosumnes River College men's basketball team has been selected as the CRC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 15-21.

Love was named Big 8 Conference Most Valuable Player, and first team All-State after leading Cosumnes River to the Big 8 Conference championship.  Love averaged 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists during his sophomore season, leading the Hawks to a 22-7 overall record and a 12-2 record in conference.  The Hawks have won 12 straight games following a pair of victories this past week to wrap up the regular season.

Love opened the week with a nine point, three rebound, six assist performance in leading the Hawks to a 67-61 victory on the road against Modesto.  The 6'2" guard also grabbed four assists in helping the top ranked defense in Northern California to the victory.  He followed up that performance with a 21 point game in the regular season finale, leading CRC to a 70-67 victory at home against Santa Rosa on sophomore night.  Love added six assists and a steal in the win.

This is Love's second CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, and the second for the men's basketball team this season.  He was named Student-Athlete of the Week in late January following back to back impressive performances against Diablo Valley and Santa Rosa on the road.

The Hawks return to play this week when they begin postseason play.  They're likely to host a game this Friday, or Saturday, in the second round of the CCCAA Northern California Regional playoffs.  Playoff brackets and seedings will be released later this afternoon.
