CRC comes up short on the road at DVC

Big 8 Conference play continued last night at DVC. The Hawks started the game with an early lead, but played from behind most of the game by only a few points. Both teams battled most of the way. DVC stayed in their zone the entire contest while CRC mixed up man and zone defenses against the Vikings. DVC took a 34-31 lead at the half.

Starting the second half, CRC turned the ball over twice and DVC had back-to-back threes to extend the lead to 9. After a timeout by Coach Jonathan James, CRC responded with a 5-0 run and forced a DVC timeout. Around the 15-minute mark in the second half, CRC had a lull in their scoring over the next several possesions, getting good looks with their execution, but shots were simply not falling. DVC extended the lead to as much as 14 points with a 55-41 lead with about 8 minutes remaining. The Hawks fought back by keeping up the pressure on defense and forcing some DVC turnovers. CRC chipped away and cut to as close as 63-60 with under a minute to play and possession of the ball. Unfortunately, CRC missed 2 shots on one possession and were forced to foul to stop the clock. DVC went 3-4 from the free-throw line on back-to-back possessions, and so the Vikings held on to 66-60 victory. CRC is now at 1-1 in Big 8 play and host their home opener vs Folsom Lake this Thursday at 7:30pm.

After the game, assistant coach Tony Champion commented saying, "We continued to show a lot of growth with the way we battled on the road. Once it clicks for our guys, they will be scary to play."
