Hawks Drop Second Game of MJC Classic to Falcons

MODESTO (12-7) – The Hawks played their second game of the 81st Annual MJC Classic as they took on fellow Big 8 Conference member Folsom Lake College. The Falcons defeated the Hawks 82-69.

In the first half, the Hawks led most of the half with solid defense and interior scoring by Drew Buggs, Paul Ohiri, and Marcus Robinson. In the final minutes of the half, the Falcons went on a 6-2 spurt. Khari Hutt was in foul trouble and was on the bench during the Falcons' run. Folsom Lake led 36-33 at halftime.

In the second half, Buggs was a large part of the Hawks' early scoring, but foul trouble in the second half caused Coach Jonathan James to keep Buggs on the bench. Buggs finished with fifteen points but only scored four in the second half. Hutt and Robinson stepped up their game to keep the contest close for a while. Hutt and Robinson combined for eight assists, seven steals, and three blocks, but the rest of the team struggled to score constantly.

The loss marked the Hawks' third in a row.

Buggs had fifteen points and four rebounds, Ohiri had fourteen points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Robinson had thirteen points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block for the Hawks.

The next game for the Hawks is tomorrow as they took on Ohlone College in the seventh-place game of the 81st Annual MJC Classic. Tip-off is at noon.
