HAWKS POUND BUTTE FOR SEASON'S FIRST WIN

HAWKS POUND BUTTE FOR SEASON'S FIRST WIN

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Cosumnes River recorded their first victory of the 2013 season this afternoon, as the Hawks defeated visiting Butte College in a resounding 3-0 win.  The victory extends the Hawks undefeated streak to three matches, which they'll look to continue in showcase play this weekend.

The Hawks struck early and often in this match, attempting 12 shots in the contest, and connecting on three.  "The formula for our program since I've been here has been to play with high energy, (to play) within our system, and to emphasize defense," said Coach Ron Preble prior to the match.  "If we stick to this formula we will always be in a position to get a result."  The Hawks did just that, recording their first shutout of the season in the 3-0 win.

Midfielder Eliezer Ramos broke the tie early in the match, recording his second goal of the young season, as CRC took an early 1-0 advantage.  Sophomore Darrien Parker connected on a strike for the Hawks, as Cosumnes River began to pull away, controlling the match for the remainder of the contest.  Luis Acosta capped the offense for CRC, as the Hawks scored three goals (all assisted), for the 3-0 victory.

CRC used two goalkeepers in the match, as freshman Forrest Schwabe earned the starting nod today, his first appearance of the season.  Schwabe recorded a pair of saves before Carter Giroux took over to complete the match.  Giroux had three saves on the day in combining for the shutout.

The Hawks played well for the duration of the contest, before both teams began to lose their composure late in the match.  Defender Brad Burkhart received a pair of yellow cards, earning the Hawks first red card of the season.  CRC completed the contest a man short, but didn't concede a goal.

Cosumnes River hosts a three-day event this upcoming weekend, with the Nor-Cal College Showcase Weekend coming to CRC.  Play begins on Friday and will continue all weekend, as Cosumnes River will play three matches this weekend.  The Hawks will open the showcase against Shasta College this Friday, with that match scheduled for 1 PM.  They'll return to action Saturday for a match against Evergreen Valley.  That match is set for 2 PM.  CRC will then wrap up the weekend by hosting Yuba College on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for noon.
