Baseball vs. Sierra College

First half does the job for the Hawks against ARC.

First half does the job for the Hawks against ARC.

As has been the case this season, the Hawks spotted their opponent a lead and then came roaring back. On Friday it was the Big 8 opener against American River College where our Hawks held on and played good defense in a scoreless second half taking the 4-3 win.

With the victory the Hawks find themselves at 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in Big 8 play good for first place ahead of many teams that have not had their opener yet.

Giving up three goals to most teams in the first half might be enough for a win, but maybe not against the comeback Hawks who scored four straight to close out the first half.

Antonio Almaraz started it off for the Hawks making the score 3-1 on his second goal of the year, an unassisted tally.

Cameron Peuse made it 3-2 with his own unassisted goal, which was also his second of the season.

Preston Magonigal scored to tie the match up at 3 with his team leading fourth goal of the year. Bryan Gonzalez had the assist on Magonigal's goal, his second assist of the year.

Alexis Marquez scored the game winner for the Hawks on his second goal of the year. Marquez goal was unassisted.

For the game the Hawks scored four times on the six shots on goal they took against the Beavers and Antonio Welch had five saves on the eight shots the Beavers took against the Hawks.

Next up for the Hawks is a game on the road against Modesto Junior College at 4pm on Tuesday the 27th. Modesto is 1-2-5 on the year and this will be their Big 8 opener.
