Evergreen Valley Tops Cosumnes River in Battle of Hawks

SAN JOSE (8-29) - Cosumnes River played their first match of the 2017 season as they took Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. Evergreen Valley scored in the waning seconds of the match and won 2-1.

Cosumnes River is coming off an 8-9-4 record in 2016 while Evergreen Valley finished with a 13-5-4 record and their season culminated in a loss in the first round of the CCCAA Northern California Regionals.

In the first half, Evergreen Valley would strike first. Louis Bellido took a pass from Luna Andres and shot a rocket which hit the back of the net, with ten minutes left in the half, to give Evergreen Valley a 1-0 lead. Evergreen Valley led 1-0 at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the majority of half was played at a back and forth pace. With just two minutes remaining in the match, Lineker Carvalho scored off a pass from Francisco Comparan to tie the match at 1-1. Evergreen Valley would have score the winning tally off the foot of Hoang Pham in the waning seconds of injury time to give Evergreen Valley the 2-1 victory.

Christopher Reveles had two shots to lead Cosumnes River. Carlos Arroyo got the win for Evergreen Valley while Hector Grajeda got the loss for Cosumnes River.

The next match for Cosumnes River will be Tuesday as they take on Feather River College in CRC Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 3 pm.
