Hawks Take Down #10 DeAnza 2-0

SACRAMENTO (9-9) - In the last day of the CCCAA NorCal Showcase, Cosumnes River looked to rebound after a disappointing defeat Friday against Hartnell College. The Dons of De Anza College were the Hawks' opponent Sunday in what turned out to be a spirited affair.

In the first half, the Hawks took control of the match but they were only able to register two shots on goal. Sophomore Hector Grajeda had to make three saves to keep the score at zero.

In the second half, the Hawks' persistence paid off when David Cooper III was able to score his first goal of the year in the 54th minute off his own rebound. The game continued to get chippy as a total of 8 yellow cards were given as well as a red card to the Dons in the 70th minute which forced them to play down a man for the remaining twenty minutes of the match.

Looking to put the game to bed the Hawks piled on the pressure and finally, in the 80th minute, the game was sealed. Beginning from their own goal, the Hawks passed their way up the field when Francisco Comparan passed to Ivan Gutierrez for his second goal of the season and the Hawks' second goal of the match.

Grajeda registered four saves in his first win and shutout of the season improving the Hawks to a 2-2-1 record.

The Hawks will now head on the road for two matches. Their first match is on Tuesday as they take on City College of San Francisco in San Francisco.
