Hawks Score Late in 1-1 Draw

SACRAMENTO (9-25) - The Cosumnes River men's soccer team entered today's match riding a four-match shutout and unbeaten streak as they traveled to American River College.

Looking to improve from their last match vs Folsom Lake College, the Hawks were determined to play at a much faster pace. Unfortunately, the Hawks' first half attack fluttered registering six shots with one on frame.

In the second half, the Beavers struck first. Hector Grajeda went fully stretched to get his fingertips on the ball to push it around the goal. Off the ensuing corner, however, the Beavers were able to capitalize on some loose defending when a header sails into the back corner of the goal to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. After making a tactical switch, the Hawks created wave after wave of opportunities and it wasn't until the 85th minute when Francisco Comparan hammered home the game-tying goal. In the last five minutes, the Hawks had three chances to score, but the match ended 1-1.

The draw improved the Hawks' record to 4-2-3 and extended their unbeaten streak to five games.

The next match for the Hawks is against Modesto Junior College on Friday in Sacramento.
