Hawks Score Five Against the Pirates

SACRAMENTO (9-28) – The Hawks entered the today's Big 8 Conference match on a five-game unbeaten streak after a 1-1 tie away at American River College on Tuesday. Today's opponent, the Pirates of Modesto Junior College, were searching for their first win of the season.

The Hawks started the scoring early when Francisco Comparan played a ball to Lincoln Carvalho for his fourth goal of the season and the early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Hawks had a moment of sloppiness in on defense, lunged into a tackle and fouled the Pirates' striker which resulted in a penalty kick where the Pirates scored tying the game 1-1 in the 20th minute. The Hawks' second goal came in the 31st minute when Comparan was able to get his third of the year after a rebound from the Pirates' goalkeeper. Ten minutes later, Roy Rangel was able to get his name on the score sheet with his third goal of the year off a pass by Luis Sandoval

In the second half, the Hawks continued the pressure. In the 71st minute, Brandon Ryan scored his first goal of the season on a missile into the top corner to extend the Hawks' lead to 4-1. Edgar Lopez scored his first goal of the season by another missile away from the keepers' reach to beat the Pirates to add the final tally.

The win extends the Hawks' unbeaten streak to six games.
