Hawks Fall 3-0 To Mustangs

SACRAMENTO (11-9) - Cosumnes River hosted their final match of the 2018 regular season as they took on San Joaquin Delta College in Sacramento. The Mustangs scored two first half goals in route to a 3-0 win over the Hawks.

After exchanging scoring opportunities, the Mustangs got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute when a bad first touch off an unfortunate bounce found the Mustangs on a counter attack where Ivan Rosales scored off a pass from Hector Romero to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Two minutes of clock time later, the Hawks were caught on the counter-attack again as Lucas Travis scored off an Avel Chavez assist to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage. The Mustangs led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks were caught napping when a quick press saw Rosales score off a Jesus Fernandez assist to extend the Mustangs' lead to 3-0. The Hawks were unlucky to not get a goal back in the 70th minute after a great combination play found Julio Leal Ruiz open to finish but he scuffed his shot just wide of the net. The Mustangs won the match 3-0.

The Hawks will now wait to see if they will make the 2018 CCCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The brackets will be released on Wednesday.
