HAWKS WIN BIG OVER MODESTO

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  The Hawks beat Modesto in just 5 innings by the score of 14-2.  It was an all around team effort win.  The hitting for the Hawks was outstanding, as well as the defense, only allowing 2 runs.  Another great performance from Amanda Horbasch from the mound, getting another win. 

The girls came out strong in this game scoring 4 runs right off the bat in the first inning.  Jessica Venturelli (pictured right) had a huge game from the plate, hitting 1 double, 1 triple, and combining for 2 RBI's.  From the mound Amanda Horbasch had another solid game, pitching a total of 5 innings, and allowing 4 hits and 2 runs, with 6 strikeouts, facing 21 batters on the day.  

The team as a whole lit it up with their bats through out this game! The team as a whole would have a total of 17 hits, 14 runs, 11 RBI's, and 0 strikeouts, against the three pitchers that Modesto threw at them.  The Hawks would explode in the top of the 4th and 5th inning, scoring 5 runs in each of them to close out the game with a win. 

Individually, Carly Hintz would hit 1 double to boost the Hawks.  Six of the girls would have RBI's on the day to help the Hawks with the win: Christin Stein with 3, Horbasch with 1, Venturelli with 2, Kacey Lutz also with 3, Gail Oliver with 1, and Briana Cherry added 1.  

With this great win the Hawks advance to an overall record of 14-13, and a conference record of 5-7, ranking them 5th in the Big 8.  For the next match up the Hawks travel to the Delta to face Big 8's 4th ranked San Joaquin Delta in a double header, Thursday April 10th, at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
