The Hawks Drop Two At San Mateo

Under threat of rain all day and cold-windy conditions, The Hawks battled San Mateo College to a 7-6 loss and a 6-5 loss to drop their record to 6-2 on the young season.

Game 1 saw The Hawks get off to a rough start when 2 errors and a hit cost The Hawks 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. San Mateo put another run on the board in the 2nd, and then The Hawks held things in check until The Hawks climbed back in the game to tie the game in the 5th. With a score of 6-6 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, San Mateo picked up a run on a home run, and then were able to shut the door for a 7-6 win.

Courtney Beatty, Taelor Ford, Cecilia Rivera, And Baylee Hirtel each picked up multiple hits, and Miranda Rodriguez and Ford had 2 RBIs in the game. Ford picked up her secound home run of the season in the 5th inning. Brittany Baroni picked up her first loss on the season allowing 4 earned runs on 14 hits. Baroni is 4-1 on the season.

The Hawks rebounded in game 2 to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th when San Mateo capitalized on 2 walks, a hit batter, and a couple of singles to pull out the win 6-5.

The Hawks put 4 runs on the board in the 3rd and 1 run in the 4th, but were unable to close the door on the #1 ranked team in the state. Miranda Rodriguez and Alexus Acosta each had two hits apiece in the game. Ashleigh Berg picked up the loss for The Hawks allowing 9 hits on 5 runs. Berg is 2-1 on the season.

The Hawks will try to open at home Tuesday when they host Merced College in a double header at CRC Stadium. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm. Weather could be an issue, and updates can be found at GameChanger.
