Santa Rosa Hands The Hawks Tough Loss

Santa Rosa suffered a defeat in game 1 of a double header Saturday 14-6, but battled back in game 2 to win 3-2 on a walk-off base hit and a play at the plate to hand The Hawks their 7th loss of the season.

In game 1, The Hawks put up their 14 runs on 11 hits with Chelsea Martinez contributing 6 RBIs going 3 for 3 and hitting a grand slam in the top of the 4th. Veronica Smith added 3 RBIs going 3 for 4 and adding a home run in the top of the 5th. Baylee Hirtel and Lindsay Lambert each added 2 RBIs in the game.

Ashleigh Berg got the win in game 1 going 3 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits, striking out 4 and allowing 5 earned runs. Chelsea Martinez picked-up the save going 1 1/3 innings allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out 2.

Game 2 proved to be a different story for The Hawks. The Hawks picked-up 7 hits, but stranded 9 runners on base to take a 3-2 defeat. Chelsea Martinez, Baylee Hirtel, and Veronica Smith each hit .500 in game 2 with Martinez adding a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning.

Chelsea Martinez got the loss in game 2 throwing 6 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 3 strikeouts, walking 1, and giving up 3 earned runs.

On the day, Chelsea Martinez hit .800 providing 7 RBIs while Veronica Smith hit .667 providing 3 RBIs.

The Hawks will continue conference play Tuesday with a make-up double header at Sac City College with game 1 scheduled to start at 12:00 pm. Fans can follow along on GameChanger.
