Hawks Take Game Two in Five Innings

SACRAMENTO, CA 

The Hawks played their second game of their 2017 California Community College Athletic Association Softball Championship series against Butte College. The Hawks scored seven runs in the fifth enroute to an 8-0 win over the Roadrunners.

The Hawks won game one of the series 6-1, yesterday, at CRC Stadium.

The pitching match-up was between the Hawks' Brittany Barroni and the Roadrunners' Baylee Thayer. The Hawks would strike first in the top of the second inning as Alex Scardina would score on a wild pitch. The Hawks would lead 1-0 at the end of the second inning. In the top of the fifth inning, The Hawks would explode for seven runs, two on a Chelsea Martinez double to center field that scored Cecilia Rivera and Miranda Rodriguez, two on a Taelor Ford single to left field that scored Courtney Beatty and Martinez, one on a Roadrunners' hit batsman, one on a Rivera sacrifice fly to right that scored Lindsay Lambert, and one on a passed ball that scored Veronica Smith.

Barroni got the win going 5 innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 2 for The Hawks in her shutout performance, and Thayer got the loss for the Roadrunners. For the Hawks, Martinez went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ford went 1-3 with two RBIs runs and one run scored. For the Roadrunners, Jenna Robicheau went 2-3.

The Hawks await the seeding for the CCCAA Northern California Softball Super Regionals next weekend. Dates and times will be post as soon as they become available.
