Hawks Stymied By Panthers

 

SACRAMENTO (3-1) - Nothing came easy for the Hawks on Friday as they fell 15-2 to Sacramento City in the Hawks' Big 8 Conference home opener.

The Hawks got things started in the first inning when Anabelle Benfiet doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring Kayley Rocha who reached on an error to begin the Hawks' half of the first.

Sacramento City pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third, Bella Munoz singled scoring one run. An error then scored one run for the Panthers, Makenzie Duval singled scoring two runs, and Rylee Retzer doubled scoring one run. 

Sacramento City scored seven runs in the seventh inning on eight hits. The big inning for Sacramento City came thanks to singles by Jordyn Farren, Shelby Lloyd, Munoz and Patti Swimley, a walk by Duval, and a groundout by Madi Furton.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks showed some life getting the bases loaded with walks from Abigail Martinez and Devyn Nichols, and a hit by pitch from Crystel Ruaro. Kayley Rocha singled with the bases loaded and Martinez scored. The Panthers had a double play to end the inning.

Benfiet, Aliah Cisneros and Rocha had one hit apiece to lead the Hawks

Danielle Reyes got the win for Sacramento City as she surrendered two runs on two hits in 6.1 innings while striking out six.  Rachel Gordon threw two-thirds of an inning in relief. Rebekah Pedersen took the loss for Hawks as she went 5.2 innings allowing eight runs on ten hits and struck out one.
