JANIE MYLES NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Janie Myles (West Allis Central HS (WI)/Chicago, Ill.), redshirt sophomore forward for the women’s basketball team, has been named CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 10-16.  This is the first time Myles has received the honor.

Myles (pictured right), a 5’11” redshirt sophomore from Chicago, led the Hawks to the championship of the CRC Invitational this past week at Cosumnes River College.  Myles averaged a double-double for the tournament, averaging over 25 points and 17 rebounds over the three games.  She capped off the weekend with an outstanding 29 point-22 rebound performance against American River in the championship game, leading the Hawks to a 85-47 dismantling of their crosstown rivals.  The double-double was Myles fifth straight, and marked the fourth time this season she has scored over 20 points in a game.

For the season, Myles is averaging 20.7 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest, both of which put her among the top in the CCCAA state statistical leaders.  Myles is currently ranked fourth in the CCCAA, and first in the Big 8 conference, in rebounding.  Her 20.7 points per contest is good for fourth in the Big 8 conference.  Myles has also proven to be an efficient scorer in the post, shooting nearly 57% from the field this season, including 71% from the charity stripe.  She’s also shooting 67% from three-point range.

This is Janie Myles’ first CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the first for the men’s basketball team this season.  Myles and the rest of the Hawks women return to action this week on the road, as they travel north to Weed, where they will take on College of the Siskiyous.  The team will then remain idle until the following week, when they take on West Hills-Lemoore on the road.  The Hawks return home in January with Big 8 conference play.

Honorable Mention: AJ Bridges (men’s basketball), Vilma Gonzalez (women’s soccer), Carter Giroux (men’s soccer), Nancy Pacheco (volleyball).
