WEED, Calif.- Fresh off a 3-0 week where the Hawks took their own CRC Invitational championship, and riding a five game winning streak, the Cosumnes River women's basketball team heads north today where they will take on the College of the Siskiyous.  Cosumnes River (5-1) looks to continue to ride a pair of sophomores to one of their best starts in recent years, as they begin their road trip today.

The CRC women's basketball team tips off tonight in Weed, a small town with a population of about 3,000, about 50 miles south of the Oregon border.  They'll take on the Eagles of the College of the Siskiyous, who open the season with a 2-0 record.  Siskiyous is coming off 80-71 victory over Mendocino last week.  Siskiyous touts a talented roster, as the team returns Golden Valley Conference freshman of the year Carrie Watson.  Watson recorded a double-double in the team's victory over Mendocino.  The Eagles are a deep team, as they have four players averaging double-digits in scoring, led by freshman Casie Johnson.  Johnson, the Pepsi Lady Eagle player of the week this past week, is a freshman out of Eagle Point HS in Oregon.  She's averaging over 25 points and 12 rebounds per contest through two games this season, giving the Eagles a dominant presence in the paint.

The Hawks look to match Johnson's production with their own standout post, in sophomore Janie Myles.  Myles, CRC's Student-Athlete of the Week this past week, has recorded five consecutive double-doubles.  Myles, a 5'11" redshirt sophomore from Chicago, led the Hawks to the championship of the CRC Invitational this past week at Cosumnes River College.  Myles averaged a double-double for the tournament, averaging over 25 points and 17 rebounds over the three games.  She capped off the weekend with an outstanding 29 point-22 rebound performance against American River in the championship game, leading the Hawks to an 85-47 dismantling of their crosstown rivals.  For the season, Myles is averaging 20.7 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest, both of which put her among the top in the CCCAA state statistical leaders.

CRC has won their last five contests, including going 3-0 to take the championship of their own CRC Invitational this past week.  CRC concluded their championship run by blowing out Big 8 and crosstown rival American River College in the championship game, 85-47.  Redshirt sophomore forward Myles capped off an outstanding tournament with another dominant performance, recording her fifth straight double-double, as she paired 19 points with 22 rebounds in the victory.  Sophomore combo guard Jade Sowell-Hundon and freshman post Jayla Henderson also scored in double-digits for the Hawks, with 17 points and 10 points, respectively.  Cosumnes River tipped off against College of the Redwoods in the second round of a tournament for the second straight week, as the Hawks hosted the Corsairs in the championship bracket of the CRC Invitational.  As they did in their previous matchup, CRC proved to be too strong for Redwoods, soundly defeating them 83-55 to advance to the championship game.  The Hawks opened the tournament this past Thursday with a 71-44 victory over Feather River College from Quincy.

Tip-off for tonight's contest is scheduled for 5 PM.  The Hawks will return to action next week, when they travel to Lemoore to take on West Hills College on Tuesday.  The team will then participate in a pair of tournaments to close out nonconference play in December, before returning home in January for Big 8 conference competition.
