HAWKS SIGHTS ARE SET ON A RETURN TO THE PLAYOFFS AS NEW SEASON APPROACHES

After going 7-20 in the 2014-15 season, the CRC Women's Basketball team is entering the new season with a team of young and very talented players ready to put the past behind them and achieve the goal of winning a conference championship.

Much like last season, the Hawks are in a familiar territory as they only have 2 starters and one redshirt returning from last season, meaning the other 11 players are all brand new freshman. Last season they were in the very same situation, eventually losing one of those few veteran players to a torn ACL.

While the results of the last season were not what the team had hoped for, head coach Coral Sage said that the results lit a new fire within the coaching staff and the returning players to settle for nothing less than a championship.

"I know this group is very talented, extremely competitive and highly motivated to prove although they may be young, they have the heart and skill to get the CRC Women's Basketball back on track and take them back deep into the playoffs," Sage said. "This group also has great leadership, chemistry and a freshmen group that is willing to follow the sophomores lead. We have high expectations for this group and trust that they will be fearless on the court."

The Hawks have been hard at work since the spring, both on and off the court, preparing themselves for the new season, including committing themselves to growing as leaders. Both sophomores Danielle Robbins and Akila Britton as well as a handful of the freshman players spent many hours in the HAWK Academy leadership training program.

A match away against Siskiyous on Nov. 9 starts off the Hawks new season, before they return home for the CRC Invintational tournament on Nov. 12-14. The team heads back out on the road against West Hills-Lemoore College, before heading into a month of tournaments in December.

From Dec. 3-6 the Hawks will be at the Contra Costa College tournament, Solano Community College Tournament on Dec. 11-13 and then at the De Anza College Tournament on Dec. 28-30 to finish off the first half of the season.

In the new year the team begins Conference play with a match against Modesto Junior College on Jan.5. Check out the rest of the Hawk's 2015-16 season schedule by clicking here.
