Alyna Kanae 1st Team Big 8 All-Conference selection!

Alyna Kanae 1st Team Big 8 All-Conference selection!

Our Freshman sensation also picked as 3rd team All-State in a year that wasn't all the Hawks hoped it would be, but with a solid core of freshmen players being there for the next year the future is bright indeed.

Probably just as important is the fact that Alyna, from Sheldon High School, also earned a 4.0 GPA in the fall semester, her first year at CRC. Education has always been a sticking point for Coach Coral Sage as she feels education is just as important as Basketball is for all of her players.

Kanae averaged 19.2 points per game overall this year which found her in 13th place in the CCCAA statistics. Kanae really put a shine to her conference numbers as she averaged 22.1 ppg in league play leading the conference in points. She led the conference in free throws, was second in steals as well. The brightest moments during the season for her may well have been a streak of seven consecutive games that she had 20 points or more.

On the other hand maybe it was the two games against our main rivals Sacramento City on the 12th of January when she went off for 28 points and 11 rebounds and followed that up three nights later against American River with 27 points and 11 more boards.

What she might remember more was the night she had against Modesto, Kanae was lights out that night shooting 10-19 from the field and 4-8 from three point range while converting 13-14 free throws, a lost art to some, for a total of 37 points. Just for good measure the ex-Husky star has 7 steals and 6 rebounds in her nights work.

With Kanae in the Hawks lineup next year the future looks bright, in fact we might all need shades!
