Hawks Can't Hold Halftime Lead; Fall to Beavers 66-52

SACRAMENTO (1-18) - The Hawks traveled across Sacramento to face American River College in Big 8 Conference play. The Hawks led at halftime but lost 66-52 to the Beavers.

Both teams lost their last game. The Hawks lost 79-57 to Sierra College in Sacramento on Tuesday while the Beavers lost 66-57 to Santa Rosa Junior College on Tuesday in Santa Rosa.

In the first quarter, both teams came out of the gate on fire with the Hawks scoring four field goals and three free throws, while the Beavers tallied three field goals and six free throws. The Beavers led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Hawks put on an impressive run. Withstanding a buzzer beater by the Beavers, the Hawks found themselves leading 29-27 at halftime. The Hawks were led by Brookelyn Larkin with sixteen points followed by Arionna Butts with nine points. The Beavers were led by Shanice Daniels, off the bench, who had eight points.

In the third quarter, the game proved challenging for the Hawks on the defensive end and the Hawks found themselves outscored 20-10 in the quarter. Larkin led the Hawks with eight points in the quarter as the Beavers led 47-39 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Hawks battled back into the game trimming the Beavers' lead to three points but just couldn't find a way out of the hole as they came up short 66-52.

The next game for the Hawks is Friday at CCCSIA #2 Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill at 5:30 pm.
