CRC Hawks fall to Monterey Peninsula College in home opener

Although Chelsea Shirley put 19 points on the scoreboard, Cosumnes River College fell to Monterey Peninsula College 73-61. Monterey Peninsula College locked in the win in the fourth quarter on a two-pointer form Jayonah Chaboya. 

 

A halftime lead of 33-31 and a 21-point second quarter on the strenght of a 12-4 run on was not enough for CRC Hawks to overcome Monterey Peninsula College's 42 points in the final two quarters of the game. Both teams were aggressice on the court, with Cosumnes River College accumulation 27 fouls while Monterey Peninsula College racked up 25. 

 

Shirley led Cosumnes River College's offense, going 5-11 (45%) from the field while also sinking 100% (9-for-9) of free throws attempted.

 

Two other players also added ten or more points for Cosumnes River College. Arionna Butts rackd up 13 points and Nevaeh Glaindo added 10 ponts. Also contributing for Cosumes River College were Veronica Alejandrez (4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals) and Briley Jordet (3 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals). 

 

Cosumes River College finished the game with 48 rebounds (20 offensive/28 defensive), two blocks and 19 steals.
