HAWKS HANG ON TO DEFEAT BUTTE 4-2 DESPITE LATE RALLY

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The Cosumnes River women's soccer team staved off a late Butte rally, improving to 3-1-1 on the season following their 4-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hawks managed to jump on Butte early to take a three goal advantage before the Roadrunners rallied to make it a competitive contest late.

Sophomore forward Vilma Gonzalez put the Hawks on the board late in the first half, finishing Allison McKinnon's free kick to put CRC up 1-0 with 6:57 to play.  Cosumnes River would take that 1-0 advantage into halftime, before another Gonzalez strike would give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage early in the second half.  CRC was in control the entire match, and appeared to put it away when Alyssa Hanks scored off a Breonna Robinzine pass with 17:20 left in the match, as Cosumnes River coasted to a 3-0 lead.  However, things would get interesting when freshman goalkeeper Anna Brown would exit the match with 10 minutes to play.

Butte would score two goals within a stretch of six minutes, as Serena Reynolds and Georgia Gregory both chipped in deep shots to bring the CRC lead to only one goal with four minutes to play.  The Roadrunners played aggressively for the remainder of the match, before the Hawks finally put the match away for good on an Ashley Briglia free kick as time expired, as CRC defeated Butte 4-2.  Brown was credited with the victory and improves to 3-1-1 on the season.  This was her second match without conceding a goal.

The Hawks will be idle until next week, when they head south to take on Evergreen Valley on the road on the 18th.  Cosumnes River will not have another home match until their Big 8 conference home opener, when CRC hosts Modesto Junior College (Sept. 27).
