HAWKS RALLY TO FORCE DRAW WITH EVC

SAN JOSE, Calif.- The Cosumnes River Hawks entered yesterday's match at a significant disadvantage as one starter, and a pair of rotation players, were sidelined with injuries.  CRC responded, however, battling through adversity to a 1-1 draw with Evergreen Valley.

In addition to the injuries the Hawks entered the match with, Evergreen Valley continues their 2013 campaign undefeated, and proved to be a difficult test for a young CRC team to face on the road.  Cosumnes River struggled early in the match, failing to mount much offensively, and conceding an early goal to EVC.  Evergreen Valley, located in the hills in San Jose, took a 1-0 lead into the half with CRC reeling.

The Hawks looked like a much different team in the second half, however, as they attacked more offensively and pushed the tempo of the match.  Sophomore forward Vilma Gonzalez, CRC's Student-Athlete of the Week, connected on an Alyssa Hanks pass for her fourth goal of the season to tie the match at one.  Cosumnes River continued to attack, but failed to convert on opportunities down the stretch, and managed only one goal in the contest for the first time two matches.  The CRC defense was much stronger in the second half, as Anna Brown's eight saves helped solidify the 1-1 draw for the Hawks.

The draw against Evergreen Valley concludes the Hawks nonconference portion of their schedule, leaving CRC with a 3-1-2 record heading into the Big 8 conference schedule.  Cosumnes River opens with Santa Rosa (Sept. 24) on the road next Tuesday, before returning home for their conference home opener next Friday (Sept. 27) against Modesto JC.  That match is scheduled for 3:30 PM.

Tickets are available for $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.  Parking permits are available at designated kiosks in the parking lots.
