ANNA BROWN NAMED CRC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Anna Brown (Elk Grove HS/Elk Grove), freshman goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team, has been named CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 22-28.  This is the second time Brown has earned the honor this season.  She was CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week during the first week of the season as well.

Brown helped lead the Hawks to a 2-0 record to open Big 8 play, following shutouts of Santa Rosa and Modesto this past week.  The Hawks opened play this week on the road against Big 8 conference power Santa Rosa, upsetting the Bear Cubs 1-0 following a six save performance by Brown.  The freshman followed that performance by leading the Hawks past Modesto 3-0, at home on the strength of five saves, in yet another shutout.  The shutout was Brown’s third of the season, and her second in the past week.

The freshman goalkeeper from Elk Grove is putting together a standout 2013 campaign for the Hawks, leading the team to a 5-1-2 record heading into the week, as well as a top national ranking.  In eight matches she has only allowed five goals, on the strength of 50 saves, and is among the top of the leaderboards in several key statistics.

Brown also earned Student-Athlete of the Week honors earlier this season following a strong first week of play.  She led the Hawks to a 2-1 upset of nationally-ranked College of the Canyons at CRC Soccer Fields in Sacramento, Calif.  Brown recorded eight saves, including five in the first half, while allowing only one goal to record her first victory of the 2013 season.  She recorded three big saves in the second half, holding the lead for CRC and leading the Hawks to their first victory of the season.

This is Anna Brown’s second CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the fourth for the women’s soccer team.  Vilma Gonzalez also earned the award in consecutive weeks, the past two weeks.  The Hawks return to Big 8 play today when they take on crosstown rival Sacramento City on the road this evening.  They’ll return home Friday for a match against Diablo Valley (Oct. 4).  That match is scheduled for a 3:30 kickoff.
