ANNA BROWN NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Anna Brown (Elk Grove HS/Elk Grove), freshman goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team, has been named CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 20-26.  This is the third time Brown has earned the honor this season.  She was CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week during the first week of the season, as well during the final week of September.

Brown helped stop the Hawks recent three match losing streak, recording two shutouts in the past week to return CRC to the Big 8 title picture.  Cosumnes River opened the week with a dominant 2-0 performance against first-place Santa Rosa JC, as Brown recorded her sixth shutout of the season on five saves.  Brown and the Hawks closed the week out with another dominant performance, this time over visiting Sac City, as CRC soundly defeated the Panthers 2-0.  Brown improved to 9-4-2 on the season, recording her seventh shutout with four saves on the afternoon.  The Hawks return to action this week in second place in the Big 8, with five matches left to play.

The freshman goalkeeper from Elk Grove is putting together a standout 2013 campaign for the Hawks, leading the team to a 9-4-2 record heading into the week.  So far in 15 matches, Brown has only allowed 11 goals, on the strength of 77 saves this season.  Her 77 saves this season leads the Big 8 conference, and puts her among the leaders in Northern California.  Brown’s seven shutouts are good for fourth in the entire state, putting her in elite company in the CCCAA.

Brown also earned Student-Athlete of the Week honors earlier this season following a strong first week of play.  She led the Hawks to a 2-1 upset of nationally-ranked College of the Canyons at CRC Soccer Fields in Sacramento, Calif.  Brown also earned the honor again during the opening week of conference play, when Brown led the team to consecutive shutouts over Santa Rosa and Modesto.

This is Anna Brown’s third CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the fifth for the women’s soccer team.  Vilma Gonzalez also earned the award earlier this season in consecutive weeks.  The Hawks return to Big 8 play this week with a pair of road matches.  They’ll head south to take on Modesto JC tomorrow, before taking on Diablo Valley on Friday in Pleasant Hill.  CRC returns home the following week where they will play host to San Joaquin Delta College.
