SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Coming off the season's most difficult stretch, one where the Hawks saw themselves lose three straight matches, CRC has bounced back in a big way.  Winners of their last three matches, all of which have been shutouts, the Cosumnes River women head to Modesto where they will take on the Modesto JC Pirates tomorrow afternoon.

The 2013 Cosumnes River Hawks have relied heavily on their defense all season, and it has come through of late, as CRC recorded their third straight victory over Sacramento City in a 2-0 shutout.  That match came on the heels of consecutive shutouts, over Santa Rosa JC and crosstown rival American River.  The Hawks recent three-game winning streak has put them back in the hunt for the Big 8 conference title, as CRC is back in second place heading into action this week.

"We are going to have to continue to defend our goal with shutouts to have a chance at the title," said head coach Cesar Plasencia.  "Our offense has been better lately but we still have room to grow."  The Hawks struggled earlier this month, as they lost three straight matches, failing to score in any of them.  They've since played much better of late, recording shutouts in their last three matches.  Their defense continues to pave the way, led by sophomore captain Megan Gomez (pictured right).  "(Gomez) has been outstanding all year but even more so recently," Coach Plasencia said of his sophomore defender.  "She is the anchor defensively for our team."

The Hawks begin a two-game road trip tomorrow afternoon when they head south to take on Modesto JC.  They'll close out the week on Friday by taking on Diablo Valley College on the road in Pleasant Hill.  CRC returns home the following week for a match against Delta College.
