KYLIE FORBES NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Kylie Forbes (Pleasant Grove HS/Sacramento), freshman midfielder for the women’s soccer team, has been named CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2.  This is the first time Forbes has earned the honor.

“Kylie has been great,” says head coach Cesar Plasencia of his freshman.  “She has been our most consistent player all year long.”  Forbes consistency has helped to solidify the Hawks midfield this season, as she helped the team play to two draws this past week in two consecutive road matches.  The Hawks opened up this past week with an outstanding defensive performance against Modesto JC, playing the Pirates to a 0-0 draw.  CRC withstood a barrage of scoring attempts by MJC, who kept the ball in the CRC zone for the majority of the contest.

Cosumnes River followed up that performance with another strong defensive effort, playing Diablo Valley to a 1-1 draw to close out the week.  CRC took command early in the contest, before conceding a late goal.  “(Forbes) always brings a great effort and a consistent level of play,” says Plasencia.  “Her play is one of the reasons we are having a great season.”

This is Kylie Forbes’ first CRC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the sixth for the women’s soccer team this season.  Freshman goalkeeper Anna Brown has earned the honor three times this season, and sophomore forward Vilma Gonzalez earned the honor in two consecutive weeks.  Forbes and the rest of the Hawks will open the week with a contest tonight at home against Delta College.  That match is slated to begin at 7 PM, and will be played under the lights at CRC Stadium.  They’ll close out the week this Friday on the road against Big 8 rival Sierra College.
