CRC HOSTS RIVAL ARC TONIGHT ON SOPHOMORE NIGHT

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- In what has been a rollercoaster season for the Cosumnes River women's soccer team, the Hawks find themselves battling for a top playoff seed tonight in their final match of the 2013 regular season.  CRC hosts sophomore night tonight at CRC Stadium, where they'll take on rival American River under the lights.

There's plenty at stake tonight, as Cosumnes River finds themselves in a battle in the Big 8 standings.  The Hawks currently sit in a tie for third-place in the Big 8 with Delta, with 23 points and a 7-4-2 conference mark.  However, Santa Rosa JC is not far above of the Hawks in second place, with a conference record of 8-4-1 and 25 points.  Diablo Valley sits in fifth place, but is also very much in the mix in the middle of the Big 8 standings.  American River will look to play the role of spoiler this season, after suffering a down season by their program's standards.

The Beavers enter tonight's match with a conference record of 3-10, and currently sit in seventh place in the Big 8 conference.  The team snapped a six match losing streak last week when they defeated Sacramento City 2-0 at home.  The Beavers lost to CRC 1-0 at home earlier this season.  Cosumnes River enters tonight's match looking to rebound from a tough 2-1 loss to rival Sierra College on the road last week.  That loss snapped a six match undefeated streak for the Hawks, who are looking to finish the regular season on a strong note.  The Hawks will look for more offense tonight, as the team has only scored three goals in their last four matches.  They'll once again lean heavily on their standout defense, led by sophomore defender Megan Gomez and freshman goalkeeper Anna Brown.

Tonight's match might be the last appearance at CRC for the team's seven sophomores, who will be honored tonight under the lights on sophomore night.  Defenders Ashley Briglia and Megan Gomez, midfielders Becky Gallo and Crystal Vega, and forwards Alyssa Hanks, Vilma Gonzalez and Kaylyn Toyama will all be recognized as part of the evening's festivities.  Kick-off for tonight's match is scheduled for 7 PM at CRC Stadium.  Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.  The team will also be giving away hot dogs and nachos at the event while supplies last.
