HAWKS OPEN POSTSEASON TONIGHT AT HOME AGAINST DELTA

HAWKS OPEN POSTSEASON TONIGHT AT HOME AGAINST DELTA

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The 2013 Cosumnes River women's soccer team continues their quest for a return to the CCCAA State Championship game later tonight, as they play host to visiting San Joaquin Delta College in the first round of the playoffs.  Kickoff is scheduled for tonight at 6 PM at CRC Stadium, under the lights!

The Hawks begin their postseason run having only lost one of their last eight matches.  The team is coming off a 3-0 victory over crosstown rival American River on sophomore night ten days ago.  CRC finished third in the Big 8 conference, just ahead of the same Delta Mustangs team they'll face in the opening round of the postseason.  Cosumnes River split against the Mustangs this season in Big 8 conference play, dropping the first match in Stockton 4-0 before taking the final match at home, 1-0.

CRC is led this season by a stingy defense that has been reluctant to give up much this season.  Captain Megan Gomez and freshman goalkeeper Anna Brown lead the Hawks defense, while sophomore Vilma Gonzalez has provided the team with offensive firepower throughout much of the season.  Gonzalez's 11 goals this season led the Big 8 conference, while Brown's 103 saves also led the Big 8.  Freshman midfielder Kylie Forbes has been the team's most consistent player this season, and has played a huge role in leading this team to a postseason berth.

Delta enters the postseason with a 9-6-5 overall mark, and a 6-5-3 record in conference good, good for a fourth place finish in the Big 8.  They lost a close 1-0 match at Modesto Junior College to close out the regular season.  The Mustangs are led by freshmen forward Monica Arroyo and defender Alyssa Ruiz.  Delta will once again look to sophomore keeper Hannah Boger, who has played every minute this season in net, to lead the Mustangs to victory.

Kick-off for tonight's match is scheduled for 6 PM at CRC Stadium.  Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.
