CRC PLAYS TONIGHT FOR TRIP TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The Cosumnes River women's soccer team is one victory away from punching their ticket to the CCCAA Soccer State Championships, which will be hosted next month at Cosumnes River College.  The Hawks, fresh off their 1-0 victory over Big 8 conference rival Santa Rosa in the second round of the Nor Cal regional playoffs, plays host to Foothill tonight at CRC Stadium.

The CRC women have defeated a pair of conference rivals on their way to the third round of the Nor Cal regionals.  The Hawks opened up postseason play with a gritty 1-0 victory over a tough Delta team to open the postseason, before defeating Santa Rosa earlier this week.  The match was evenly contested throughout, as both teams played quality defense for 90 minutes.  It wasn't until the 73rd minute sophomore Kaylyn Toyama (pictured right) connected on a free kick to put the Hawks on top 1-0.  The Bear Cubs answered with a relentless assault on goalkeeper Anna Brown, as the contest because very physical for the final 15 minutes.  Brown, a freshman out of Elk Grove and a standout in net all season for CRC, put forth one of her best performances of the year to record her 12th shutout of the 2013 campaign.  Cosumnes River will once again rely heavily on the defense to hold off a talented Foothill Owls team playing their best soccer of the season as the right time.

Foothill, out of the Coast Conference's South Division, haven't lost a match since the 1st of October going undefeated in conference play.  They've also won their last four matches, their latest, an impressive 1-0 victory over Fresno City on the road in the second round of the postseason.  The Owls are led offensively by forwards Brittany Squarcia and Mili Cosare.  Squarcia, a sophomore out of San Jose, leads the team with five goals on the season.  Cosare, one of Foothill's many impact freshmen, comes to the Owls by way of Newark Memorial HS.  Sophomore keeper Samantha Street tends the net for Foothill.

General admission for tonight's contest is $10.  There's a discounted rate of $7 for CRC students, faculty and staff.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
