HAWKS WOMEN KICKOFF 2014 SEASON TODAY AT SOLANO

HAWKS WOMEN KICKOFF 2014 SEASON TODAY AT SOLANO

FAIRFIELD, Calif.- Head Coach Cesar Plasencia and the Cosumnes River women's soccer team kicks off the 2014 season this afternoon against Bay Valley conference power Solano.  The match completes a home and home between the two teams, who played to a 0-0 draw last season at CRC on opening day.  Today's match is scheduled to take place at 3:30.

CRC is coming off one of the most successful seasons in the program's history, having narrowly missed advancing to the State Championships following a controversial loss to Foothill last November.  The Hawks finished the year with an overall record of 14-6-3, garnering the #4 seed in the Northern California regional and advancing all the way to the regional final.  Cosumnes River enters the year with renewed optimism following last season's disappointing finish.  The team returns nine players from last year's team, and will feature a number of impact sophomores transferring, or rejoining the Hawks this season.  The team also boasts an impressive freshman class that should lend itself to plenty of depth this season as well.

Returning to Cosumnes River this season will be sophomore goalkeeper Anna Brown, coming off a standout freshman campaign where she proved to be one of the top goalkeepers in the state.  Also returning will be talented midfielder Kylie Forbes, as well as defenders Allison Krebs and Kori Martin.  2014 will also see the return of talented forward Jena Mamola (pictured right) to CRC women's soccer.  Mamola redshirted last season following a standout freshman campaign for the Hawks.

Following today's match against Solano, the Hawks return to Sacramento for three-straight matches at home.  They return home next week to take on City College of San Francisco (Sept. 5), before closing out the weekend against two-time defending state champion Cerritos on Sunday (Sept. 7).
