CRC LADY HAWKS BATTLE TO BEAT #2 MODESTO JC TO ADVANCE TO FINAL 4

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Cosumnes River Hawks Women Soccer team continues their dreams of a State Championship.  The Hawks seeded #11 in the Nor Cal Playoffs traveled to #2 Modesto JC  Saturday to take on the Pirates.  In the previous two meetings the Pirates came away victorious with scores of 5-1 and 2-1.

Despite being the underdogs the Hawks believed that they would win the match.  With the match being played on a wet sloppy grass field, both teams struggled to keep possession of the ball.  Through the first half of regulation both teams battled, with CRC's best chance coming as freshmen Erica Lim (Sheldon HS) brought down a cross and laid down a pass to Sophomore Kylie Forbes (Pleasant Grove HS) who hit a rocket on goal that was saved by the Modesto keeper. Modestos best chance of the half was when CRC made a mistake in the back and the Modesto's forward found herself 1v1 with Sophomore Keeper Anna Brown (Elk Grove HS).  Anna came out sliding and made a save to keep the goal empty.  Second half was a lot like the first half with the sloppy conditions where both teams turning the ball over in the middle.

With CRC being short handed with in game injuries to sophomores starters Brianna Ascencio (Cosumnes Oaks HS), Selina Barbosa (Pleasant Grove HS), and Korie Martin (Elk Grove HS) the Hawks battled with all their heart and soul to win this game. When in the second minute  of the second 15 minute overtime period CRC was awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal.  With left footed freshmen Kelsey Jantzen (Elk Grove HS) and right footed freshmen Erica Lim both standing over the ball, it was Erica who hit the shot that went around the wall to beat the Modesto keeper near post to score her 6th goal of the season.  With 13 min left in the overtime the Hawks defended with everyone and with everything they had to the final whistle to secure the 1-0 win!

Head Coach Cesar Plasecia said "He is super proud of his team's effort and determination in this win.  I have always believed this team had what it takes to take CRC back to The Final 4"  #CRChawks
