Baseball vs. Sierra College (DH)

Averen Calvin's Dazzling goal gives Hawks a tie.

It was a pretty grey day on the CRC pitch for most of the game as the Sierra Wolverines tried to snatch a win from the Hawks in conference play, but the Hawks and Averen Calvin were not to be vanquished that easily.

Even though the Hawks out shot Sierra 3-1 in the first half, it was a goal for the Wolverines in the 18th minute that just escaped between Hawks goalie Elizabeth Kowalczyk's fingertips and the crossbar for a 1-0 lead at the half for the Wolverines.

It stayed that way until the 71st minute when Calvin took a pass from Anna Ottley and weaved through what seemed like all of the Wolverine defenders on her way to scoring her ninth goal of the year for the Hawks.

The 1-1 tie gives the Hawks a 3-2-3 record in their last eight games as they have surrendered just four goals in those games.

For the match the Hawks outshot the Wolverines 7-2 as Kowalczyk only faced two shots on goal total as she lowered her goals-against-average to 1.27 on the season and kept it at 1.0 for conference action.

Ottley's assist was her third on the season for the Hawks.

Next up for the Hawks is a quick road trip up to American River College for a 5 pm game on Friday as the Beavers open their brand new soccer facility (with the Hawks in the first ever game!) which will be the site of the 2017 CCCAA State Soccer Championships.
