SACRAMENTO (8-29) - Cosumnes River played their first match of the 2017 season this afternoon as they took on Solano Community College at CRC Soccer Field. Cosumnes River scored three goals in both the first and second halves to win 6-2 over the visiting Falcons.

The Hawks were coming off a 10-9-5 season in 2016 which concluded in the second round of the CCCAA Northern California Regionals while the Falcons were coming off a 12-7-1 season which concluded in the first round of the CCCAA Northern California Regionals.

The Hawks would control the ball for a majority of the first half. Brianna Heilman scored the first goal of the season off a pass from Analissa Lopez with 36:36 left in the half to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Just over four minutes of clock time later, the Hawks would score again, this time on a Analissa Lopez goal off a Yvonne Taylor pass to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead with 32:09 left in the half. The Hawks' third tally of the half would come from Alexis Brown, after an Alex Torres pass, with 28:43 left in the half to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Solano would get a goal back in the waning seconds of the half on a Kailyn Herrera goal to trim the Hawks lead to 3-1 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks would continue their offensive barrage. Jessey Santos would score, after a pass from Brown, with 35:25 left to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead. Santos would add another goal to her tally less than two minutes later, with 33:44 left, to extend the Hawks’ lead to 5-1. Renata Montanez scored the final goal of the day for the Hawks with 16:11 left extending the lead to 6-1. The Falcons would score with 7:36 left on an Ariana Sanchez strike to make the score 6-2.

Lopez had a match high five shots to lead the Hawks while for Solano, Herrera also had a match high five shots. Shelby Hand got the win for the Hawks while Mikayla Marwick got the loss for the Falcons. The Hawks outshot the Falcons 16-10 and the Hawks had four fewer fouls (8-4) than did the Falcons.

The Hawks will have their next match on Thursday as they will take on Las Positas College. Kickoff is set for 4 pm.
