Evergreen Valley Defeats Hawks

SAN JOSE (9-6) - Cosumnes River played their first road match of the season as they took on Evergreen Valley College. Evergreen Valley scored a goal in each half of play to win 2-0.

Both teams were coming off losses in their last match. The Hawks lost 1-0 to Las Positas College on Thursday in Sacramento while Evergreen Valley lost 3-1 to College of the Canyons on Saturday in Ventura.

In the first half, Evergreen Valley would get on the scoreboard early. Juliana Detar scored with 37:29 left in the half to give Evergreen Valley a 1-0 lead. Katrina Vina had the final shot of the half for the Hawks but her shot went high. Evergreen Valley led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the two teams played a back and forth match. Alex Torres had a chance to score but her shot was stopped by Evergreen Valley goalie Karen Aguilar. Torres' shot turned out to be the last chance for the Hawks to score in the match. Detar would add another goal with thirty-three seconds left to give Evergreen Valley a 2-0 lead. The loss was the second consecutive for the Hawks.

Torres had a match high four shots to lead the Hawks while for Evergreen Valley, Detar also had a match high four shots. Aguilar got the win for Evergreen Valley while Shelby Hand got the loss for the Hawks. Cosumnes River outshot Evergreen Valley 8-6 while Evergreen Valley had three more fouls (3-0) than did Cosumnes River.

The Hawks will have their next match on Friday as they will take on Lake Tahoe Community College in Sacramento. Kickoff is set for 5 pm.
