Hawks Tie Mustangs

STOCKTON (9-19) - Cosumnes River took to the road this afternoon as they took on San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton. Both teams scored goals in the second half as the two teams tied 1-1.

In their last match, the Hawks lost 4-1 to Santa Rosa Junior College on Friday in Sacramento while the Mustangs tied Diablo Valley 0-0 on Friday in Pleasant Hill.

In the first half, the match was played mostly in the Mustangs' offensive zone. The Mustangs had five shots on goal in the half but every shot was saved by Hawks goalie Shelby Hand. The last shot for the Hawks came off the foot of Analissa Lopez with 11:12 left in the half but her shot was saved by Amanda Leal of the Mustangs. The two teams went into the halftime intermission tied at 0-0.

In the second half, the Hawks were the first on the scoreboard. Alex Torres would score with 28:37 left to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The two teams would play most of the half again in the Mustangs' offensive zone. With just 32 seconds left in the match, the Hawks committed a foul in the box allowing Sammie Rascon to score on a penalty kick which tied the match at 1-1. The tie extended the Hawks' winless streak to four.

Analissa Lopez and Torres both had two shots to lead the Hawks and Rascon had a match high four shots to lead the Mustangs. Hand and Leal earned ties for their respective clubs. San Joaquin Delta outshot Cosumnes River 12-6 and the Mustangs had nine more corner kicks (10-1) than did Cosumnes River.

The Hawks will have their next match on Friday as they will continue Big 8 Conference play against Folsom Lake College in Sacramento. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
