Falcons Soar Past Hawks

SACRAMENTO (9-22) - Cosumnes River returned home this afternoon as they took on Folsom Lake College in Sacramento. The Falcons scored goals in each half and won the match 2-0.

In their last match, the Hawks tied 1-1 with San Joaquin Delta College on Tuesday in Stockton while the Falcons won 2-1 over American River College 0-0 last Friday in Sacramento.

In the first half, the match was played mostly in the Falcons' offensive zone as the Falcons had seven corner kicks. The Falcons would get onto the scoreboard with an Andrea Martinez goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead with 12:19 left in the half. The last shot for the Hawks in the half was by Alex Torres with 9:55 left in the half but her shot was saved by Falcons' goalie Valerie Ogorodnikov. The Falcons led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Falcons would add their second tally. With 23:31 left, Riley Spitzer would score to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Hawks would not have a shot on record in the second half. The loss extended the Hawks' winless streak to five.

Torres had one shot to lead the Hawks and Spitzer had a match high four shots to lead the Falcons. Ogorodnikov got the win for the Falcons and Shelby Hand got the loss for the Hawks. Folsom Lake outshot Cosumnes River 12-1 and the Falcons had nine more corner kicks (9-0) than did Cosumnes River.

The Hawks will have their next match on Tuesday as they will continue Big 8 Conference play against Modesto Junior College in Modesto. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
