Hawks Fall to Vikings at Home

SACRAMENTO (9-18) - The Hawks' women's soccer team fell to Diablo Valley College 2-1 in a Big 8 Conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.

Obioma Onejeme scored in the fourth minute of the match giving the Hawks an early lead in the match. Alexandria Torres provided the assist finding Onejeme on a through ball leading Onejeme one-on-one with the keeper.  Later in the half, in the 35th minute of the match, Marjan Haydaree equalized the game for the Vikings. The Hawks were outshot by Diablo Valley 9-5. Tanayjah Tamano made three saves in the first half of the match. The Hawks had a flurry of scoring chances during the opening half, but several shots went wide of the goal.

In the second half, the Vikings scored a second goal when an Alex Dusauzay cross turned into a goal by Haydaree. In injury time, Bailey Bradford was tackled from behind inside the Vikings' box awarding the Hawks with a penalty kick. Xitlaly Virrueta placed the ball on the spot and backed away from the ball to wait for the whistle but her shot hit the left corner of the post. Scrambling for the equalizer late, the Hawks tallied a pair of free kicks deep in the Vikings' territory with under two minutes remaining. The first opportunity was knocked away by the Vikings' defense and the second resulted in a goal kick.

The Hawks will travel to American River College on Friday to take on the Beavers. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
