Lady Hawks Fly Past Modesto 5-0

Sacramento, Calif. The Lady Hawks are off to a (2-0) Big 8 record with a 5-0 victory over Modesto on Tuesday.

The scoring started late in the first half when Helaina Garcia notched her 5th goal of the season in the 42nd minute off of a pass from sophomore Obioma Onejeme. The second goal came with time expiring in the first half when Obioma Onejeme beat the defenders down the line and laid a perfect ball for freshmen and Hawk of the week Morgan Maddox. Obioma Onejeme said after the game, "I was really glad that my teammates where able to finish off both of my assist and it goes to show that hard work really pays off." With the hawks leading 2-0 the game went to the half.

The 2nd half was a back and forth battle. Both teams had many chances to score. Sophomore goalkeeper Tanayjah Tamano was vital to keeping the 2-0 lead with 9 saves. In the 79th minute, when it looked like the game would be ending in a 2-0 game, freshmen Anisah Ware got a goal on a cross from freshman Lucianna Casciaro to make to 3-0. The scoring didn't stop there. Anisah Ware then assisted Hannah Salinger for a goal in the 87th minute. The Lady Hawks scored in stoppage time when Anisah Ware beat 2 defenders to score on a rocket from 25 yards out after a great entry pass from Sarah Kramer. After the game Anissa said, "going into the second half I was just focus on trying to catch the team off guard and finishing the game for my team."

The Lady Hawks will be traveling to Stockton on Friday to take on the defending Big 8 champions Delta College. They are unbeaten in Big 8 play and should be one
