SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The Cosumnes River volleyball team has a plan for the second half of Big 8 play, and it deals with reinventing themselves in order to finish out the year on a high note.  The "theme" involves changing the team's gameplan at all levels, from the coaches, to the players.

"The theme of this next half is change," says assistant coach Natalie Wells.  "To quote Mahatma Gandhi, you have to be the change you want to see in the world."  Coach Wells and the rest of the staff have been pressing the team to make adjustments which the Hawks have been slow to do this season.  So, the coaching staff decided to take action.  "As far as the girls go that's not really happening so we coaches are going to switch things up."

The staff is looking at moving players around the court, keeping them out of their comfort zones, in order to combat complacency by the team.  "At this point they have become complacent, like they've gotten used to losing and become okay with it, it seems," says Coach Wells.  "We have a few players that continually push, and want it, so it's now getting others on that same page."

CRC faces a formidable challenge later tonight in Big 8 rival Sierra College.  The Hawks played the Wolverines tough in the Big 8 opener this season before falling 3-0.  However, this is a different Hawks team that played in Rocklin during that contest.  "Since then a lot has changed in our personnel and the make up of our team," says Wells.  "So we will see how it goes."  According to Wells, CRC will be looking to stop the Sierra middles, while working to pick up more defensively.  "Our hitters need to be smarter against Sierra… working on placement because (they) have a very knowledgeable and big front row," said Wells yesterday before practice.  "Playing defense and anticipating is going to be a key factor."

Tonight's match will also be the Cosumnes River volleyball team's "Breast Cancer Awareness Night."  The team will be raising money for breast cancer research, as well as wearing pink to show support for those battling cancer, as well as breast cancer victims and survivors.  Complimentary hot dogs and soda will be included with paid admission to the event, until supplies run out.  First serve is scheduled for 6:30 PM.  Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.
