VOLLEYBALL RELEASES 2014 SCHEDULE

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Cosumnes River head volleyball coach Cassie Baxter released the program’s 2014 schedule this past week.

The Hawks 2014 schedule includes a total 26 contests, 12 as part of the team’s pre conference campaign, and 14 matches in Big 8 conference play.  Cosumnes River will see plenty of action in the friendly confines of Clark Court this season, as they play host for nine matches during their pre conference schedule, and will play seven matches at home in Big 8 play.  The only time the team plays on the road during the pre conference season will be on two neutral sites in tournaments.  CRC opens up at home on Aug. 28th when they host Lassen College from Susanville.

Follow their home opener against Lassen, the Hawks will host the annual CRC Classic on Sept. 5th.  Cosumnes River will play three matches in the one day event, at 2, 4, and 6 PM.  In the tournament opener, the Hawks will play host to the visiting Mustangs of Los Medanos College.  CRC will then matchup against the Falcons of West Hills College in Coalinga in the 4 PM match.  Closing out the event will be Coast Conference North opponent Ohlone College from Fremont.

The Hawks will also continue to host a “mini tournament” this season, which will be played on Sept. 19.  CRC takes on the College of the Redwoods from Eureka in the opener at 1 PM.  The Hawks cap their tournament with a 5 PM contest against the Columbia Claim Jumpers out of Sonora.  Redwoods and Columbia will compete in the 3 PM match.  Cosumnes River also plays two single home matches against the College of Marin (Sept. 10) and Skyline College (Sept. 17).

The team will play on the road only four times during the pre conference portion of their schedule, as they will participate in two one-day tournaments.  They’ll head to Weed, Calif. to take part in the Siskiyous Classic on Sept. 12.  They’ll open up against host Siskiyous in a noon contest, before closing out the tournament against Simpson College later in the afternoon.  CRC will head to San Bruno to close out pre conference play when they compete in the Skyline Classic.  The Hawks open the event with a rematch against College of the Redwoods before capping the event against Butte College.

Big 8 conference play begins in October when Cosumnes River plays host to crosstown rival American River College (Oct. 1).  The Hawks then compete again at home in two of their next three matches, as they host Diablo Valley (Oct. 3) before taking on the Pirates of Modesto JC on Oct. 10.  The Hawks other home contests include Santa Rosa JC (Oct. 17), Sierra (Oct. 22), and Sacramento City (Nov. 5).  Cosumnes River plays their last regular season conference match against Delta College on Sophomore Night, which will take place on Nov. 12.  All Big 8 conference matches will be played at 6:30.

Cosumnes River features four sophomores in 2014, including standouts Nancy Pacheco and Tierra CollierVi Bui and Mary Tamayo also return to the Hawks this season, along with six freshmen.
