Meg Maddalena Commits to Southern Vermont College

Meg Maddalena, a middle for the Cosumnes River College Hawks has committed to Southern Vermont College to continue her playing career and finishing up her degree in business. A two-year player for the Hawks, Meg has shown much growth in volleyball as well as in her academic endeavors.

In speaking about her Cosumnes River College experience, Meg states, "My time at CRC has been amazing. This school has been a great transition for me from my small hometown of Portola. As soon as I stepped foot on the campus I knew that I wanted to be here. Looking back since I first got here, it was definitely the best decision I could have made, not only for school, but for sports as well. I have gotten to know so many people who I will stay friends with for a long time, most of them on my volleyball team. My first year was Kari's first year, which was great because I think we both learned the dynamic here together. She has been a great coach. I couldn't have asked for anyone better to help and push me the way she has. She did so well coaching me, that I have had multiple colleges looking at me to continue playing. Out of these colleges, I chose to go to Southern Vermont College. I chose SVC because it felt like a home away from home. They have a very friendly environment, and I connected with the coach right away. CRC alumni, Olivia Sowles is there as well, so it will be nice to have a friend over there too. I look forward to what awaits me in the fall!"

Olivia Sowles, who played for CRC from 2014-2016, is also playing at Southern Vermont College. In her first year with the Mountaineers, she led her team in kills, blocks, aces, as well as was second on the team in digs. Her efforts helped earn her the New England Collegiate Conference first team player. Liv helped show Meg around during her visit and was a big factor in Meg's decision on which school to play for.

Meg leaves CRC with a combined 176 kills in her two seasons for Cosumnes River College. She also combined for 84 blocks patrolling the frontline for the Hawks. Uncharacteristic for middles, she also contributed 49 digs in her Hawk tenure. We look forward to Meg continuing to improve and grow and are excited to see what she will bring to her new team in Southern Vermont.
