Hawks Sweep at Home; Improve To 3-1 On Season

SACRAMENTO (8-31) - After splitting their opening games on the road, Cosumnes River returned home determined to put on a strong showing at home. For their first home games of the season, the Hawks took on the College of Marin and Columbia College. After all was said and done, the Hawks improved to 3-1 after beating both teams by a final score of 3-1.

First up for Cosumnes River was their match against the College of Marin. Starting off fast, the Hawks took set one by the score of 25-12. During the first set, the offense led the charge with twelve kills while hitting .370 as a team. Cosumnes River continued to put on the pressure during set two coming out with a 25-15 set victory. Offense continued to set the standard by hitting a combined .381. The third set saw the Hawks start off slow before they staged a comeback, but ultimately fell 25-22 in the third set. Regrouping during the break, Cosumnes River College finished off the game with a 25-21 set victory. The Hawks combined to hit .241 with forty-two kills during their match against the visiting Mariners. Kylie Pires lead the Hawks with fourteen kills on thirty-one attempts for a .387 kill percentage. Setter Rebakkah McLaughlin finished with eight kills on twenty attempts and twenty-six assists. Abigail Hicks lead the team with fourteen digs and five service aces. 

After defeating Marin, Cosumnes River had to regroup for its second match against Columbia. The Hawks started off with a 25-21 victory against the Claim Jumpers. The second set saw the hitting percentage for Cosumnes River fall as they fell to Columbia in a close second set by the score of 22-25. After falling in the second set, the Hawks seemed to snap awake for the last two sets of the night. The third set saw the Hawks combine for sixteen kills while hitting an effective .500 on the set. The effective percentage allowed the Hawks to pull out a 25-15 victory and take the momentum in the match. Cosumnes River continued to ride the momentum they built to take a 25-13 victory in set four to clinch the match. In the fourth set, the Hawks combined for thirteen kills with a .333 kill percentage. Kylie Pires led the Hawk offensive attack with seventeen kills with a .324 kill percentage. Elizabeth Smith followed close behind with thirteen kills of her own. Rebakkah McLaughlin was one dig away from her first triple-double on the season. Instead she ended with ten kills, thirty six assists, and nine digs during the match. This was her fourth double-double in as many matches. Libero Abigail Hicks had thirty-three digs along with five service aces during the night cap of the doubleheader.
