Hawks Fly To A 4-2 Record on the Season After Split

SAN MATEO (9-5)-Cosumnes River traveled to San Mateo for their second road doubleheader of the season.

In the first match, the Hawks took on Los Medanos College at the College of San Mateo. The Hawks fell in a close set one by the score of 25-23. In set two, the Hawks regrouped to take down the Mustangs by the score of 25-23. Set three was a back and forth game in which Cosumnes River took the victory 25-23. Set four saw the Hawks get off to a strong start before finding a lull in the middle of the set. Regrouping after an effective timeout by coach Kari Nahlen, the Hawks finished strong and taking the set 25-21 for the match victory. Freshman outside hitter Kylie Pires lead the Hawks' offense with ten kills on thirty-two swings. Pires also took second on the team with ten digs during the four set match. Sophomore setter Rebakkah McLaughlin lead the team with twenty-four assists. Freshman libero Abigail Hicks lead the team with thirteen digs, followed by freshman defensive specialist Larissa Vogelbacher who contributed nine digs.

The second match saw a heated competition as the Hawks took on the host Bulldogs of College of San Mateo. Unfortunately, the Hawks were unable to overcome the Bulldog offense and fell to 4-2 on the season. Kylie Pires picked up her second double-double on the day with eleven kills and fourteen digs.
