Hawks Take Victory at Home, Sink Pirates

Sacramento, CA - The Hawks hosted the Modesto Junior College Pirates on Friday as part of their annual Pink Night, in which all proceeds went to support Breast Cancer research. After a tough loss on Wednesday, Cosumnes River came out with a concerted effort from the start. Mixing things up, Charissa Pham got the start, which proved to be a spark plug and helped jump start the Hawks. CRC held the momentum for the first two sets, before losing it at the end of the third set in which the Hawks fell in a close 22-25 loss. However, the Hawks were able to regroup and come out strong to finish out the match in four sets and picking up their 11th victory on the season.

The Middle duo of Miah Williamson and Deziree McKee continued to be a strength for the Hawks and they once again lead the team with a combined 39 kills. Miah Williamson picked up her 226th kill of the season which is good for holding her 4th position in conference and 1st overall as a Middle Blocker. Cosumnes River combined for 54 kills compared to the 34 of the visiting Pirates. Charissa Pham picked up the start as well as a double-double with 52 assists and 24 digs during the match. Pham set the bar for most assists this season for a Hawk in a match.

On the defense CRC lived up to their focus of a defensively minded team, picking up 117 digs, 15 blocks. Abigail Hicks lead the Hawks with 33 digs, adding to her 422 total digs which is 2nd in conference. Ainsley Beckman picked up 25 digs, which breaks her season high. Anna Thomas (13) and Isabella Bugarin (10) added to the double-digit dig totals of the Hawks. Miah Williamson and Deziree McKee both totaled 1 solo block and 3 combo blocks to help the CRC frontline which has been strong all season. Kaley Dosier added 1 solo and 2 combo blocks, along with Taryn Oberle's 2 combo blocks.

Up Next - CRC (11-13) travels up Interstate 80 to take on #10 Folsom Lake College (16-5). The Hawks were unable to take the Falcons at home, and look to add to their strong play of late.
